Data Registry Backup Using .vue Files

Quite a few people in the CoViz community use CoViz either offsite or offshore. Did you know that you can use a view file (.vue) to backup only the items that you need to take with you? One common problem is that typically on the Linux side of things the Data Registry (DR) is well populated with many gigabytes of data (either seismic volumes or large VIP or RMS imports). What people have done in the past is to either make a brand new data registry and populate it with the files that they require for their offsite work, or make a copy of the data registry and delete all the items they don′t need. One under-utilized feature is to add to the 3D Viewer all the items that you need to take with you and create a .vue file (main menu, File –> Save Vue As). Then from the DR you can add this .vue file to the views tab. If you then right mouse click on this new vue file you will have the option to Back Up. This creates a .zip file which contains all the items that were in your .vue file. When you restore this .vue file to your PC you will see a duplicate of the original DR file, (but the links will be broken for every item not contained in the .vue file).
