Using Lathe Plots for Well Data
As an example here′s how you can display gamma ray (GR) data as a colored lathe plot. Firstly open your GR.pdat file and under the Render tab ensure that it is point rendered. Next select the Tube Display icon and you will be presented with a Well Tube Dialog box. Select the wells to be displayed or simply Select All. Your GR data will have a range of 0–150 api units or there-abouts with sands typically being 40–50 api. Next choose either the Linear or Logarithmic buttons under the ″Scaling″ field. Set the radius value to something like 100 for the minimum GR values and 0 for the maximum GR values (thereby inverting the display). Select Apply. Finally under the Visible tab select the ″Paint-Pot″ icon to color the GR data. Set the range of data you want to view (say 30–70 api units) and select Remap Colors to Slider under the ″Paint-Palette.″ This will display the full color range to the data selected. Finally you can select Reverse Color Table under the ″Paint-Palette″ icon to color sands yellow and silts⁄shales purple, or something similar.
