Release Notes—EarthVision 8.0

Dynamic Graphics′ clients participating in our software maintenance program receive EarthVision releases, documentation updates, and year-round technical support for licensed software at no additional charge.
The EarthVision 8.0 release contains some new features, enhancements, and changes. We encourage all users to read through these release notes (always available via the Help > Release Notes function in the main EarthVision window or as a PDF download from the link at right) as it covers all major changes to EarthVision. The following sections highlight the EarthVision 8.0 new features and enhancements.
Overview of Major New Features
- New Main Menu
- All DGI Gift programs incorporated into the Main Menu
- The new 3D Viewer, introduced in EarthVision 7.5 as the 3D Viewer+, now fully replaces the old 3D Viewer (which is still available for this release)
- New 4DV file type for fast 3D visualization of cross sections and fence displays
- True Stratigraphic Thickness (TST) gridding is now available for calculating intermediate horizons within the WorkFlow Manager
- Fluid contacts available within the WorkFlow Manager (viewing only)
- 3D model building (.faces file generation) accuracy significantly improved
- All new EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis) tools that work interactively with the 3D Viewer
- Inclusion of data′s Vertical Datum Relative to Mean Sea Level allows data from disparate sources (e.g., drilling data, geologic data) to be displayed and analyzed in their correct vertical space
- Increased the number of supported projection systems
- Significant 3D Cellular Gridding improvements
- 64-bit Linux version available for select modules
- EarthVision 8.0 now runs on RHEL 5 (some modifications needed, as noted in the EarthVision 8.0 Site Administrator Guide)
- Developer′s Toolkit documentation
- Nutcracker no longer required for the majority of EarthVision modules
