New Geocellular Grid Export
A dramatic new advance in EarthVision 7.5 is the optional Geocellular module. Starting from an EarthVision structural model, the module generates geocellular grids suitable for export into a wide variety of reservoir simulation software. Highlights include:
- quick, easy workflow: Generate new geocellular grids in minutes, not days
- precise cell modeling, handles complex fault geometries with ease
- lightning fast calculations
- numerous upscaling options, including arithmetic, geometric, harmonic, and power mean, plus hybrid schema for heterogeneous properties such as permeability
- export formats including Eclipse™, RESCUE™, VIP™, CMG™, GRIDGENR™, and more
- importing popular reservoir simulation outputs into EarthVision
- visualization of inputs and outputs within the familiar 3D Viewer environment

Accurate Model-based Well Design
EarthVision integrates interactive 3D well positioning tools with geologic models to provide precise well planning and analysis. Geosteering and well display capabilities include:
- spreadsheet-based well design with interactive target selection using the shared-earth 3D model and based on user-specified path parameters, including DLS control
- immediately viewing designed well path with the 3D model, surface intersections, and automated 3D annotation
- unlimited hierarchy of planned sidetracks from new or existing wells, with automatic updating when the parent well is changed
- uncertainty calculation and collision avoidance analysis with traveling cylinder diagrams that decrease risk and increase confidence
- rapid updates to both the well position and 3D structural model, including adjustments for MWD⁄LWD data
- calculation of well path⁄structure intersections to reduce drilling risks and safely steer wells to optimum positions
- synchronized 3D viewing of models and well paths between the office and the drill site for team decision-making

Faster and Easier 3D Modeling
Streamline model building with the WorkFlow Manager′s geologically oriented process. Using one-time data entry, the WorkFlow Manager′s interface provides an intuitive environment, guiding users through modeling salt domes, diapirs, and complexly faulted structures, and performing time to depth conversion.
- customizable interface allows workflow to easily suit project, user, or site needs
- rotate, slice, peel, and clone 3D structural and property models for effective evaluation and verification
- contour maps, isochore maps, and cross sections derived from 3D models provide easily understood representations of reverse faults, major fault gaps, and erosional and fault-wedge contours; these realistic views of layer juxtaposition are critical tools in fluid migration and hydrocarbon entrapment analyses
- seamlessly integrate seismic interpretation in time with your depth model using EarthVision′s geo-model-driven velocity analysis and time-to-depth conversion
- update models or create new surfaces using the WorkFlow Manager during the visualization process
- include property information from well data or other sources
- model property distributions using geometric reconstructive techniques to better represent the true deposition history of strata in faulted reservoirs
- group properties by zone or fault block and use conformal or non-conformal gridding to accurately represent property distributions
Integrated Display of Seismic Volumes and 3D Models
The EarthVision display of seismic uses superior data integration for an efficient approach to quality control. Seismic volumes rendered as cubes, isosurfaces, volumetric clouds, or X,Y,Z planar slices against a 3D model allow:
- display of seismic on a fault block and⁄or zone basis for easy model verification and quality control in time or depth
- direct comparison and validation of fault and horizon interpretations
- errors in interpreted data to be quickly identified and edited on-the-fly
- verification analysis for effective communication within the evaluation team and to upper management
- view seismic data along a well tube
- simultaneous viewing of multiple models, multiple data sets, and multiple model spaces. Visualize large co-located data volumes more easily than ever before. Also view cellular models and time series

Industry Links Provide Seamless Workflow
Simplify integration. Import and export direct links to industry standard and widely used data-formats provide the ability to:
- import OpenWorks® well paths, log curves, tops and fault picks, and completion data for direct display on cross sections, well panels, maps, and with 3D geologic models
- import OpenWorks map data and SeisWorks® interpreted horizon and fault data for gridding and contour maps
- import SEG-Y (custom service; may be additional cost) and SeisWorks 3D seismic traces for 3D display integration with geologic models in fully supported rotated space
- export to the POSC® industry-standard RESCUE model exchange format to send complete geologic models to reservoir simulator grid generation and upscaling packages
- import and export cellular models and time series in a wide variety of flow simulator formats using optional geocellular gridding module
Display Multiple Data Types in a Variety of Ways: rotated contour maps; annotated well logs on cross sections; and seismic sections, well paths, fault picks, and 3D properties and surfaces in 3D. In the bottom image, seismic data displayed in 3D allows for easy model verification and fault picking. (Seismic model data courtesy of Union Pacific Resources.)

Streamline the model building process with EarthVision® 7.5, and its impressive WorkFlow Manager®. Train today, use tomorrow. Our easy-to-learn interface and advanced capabilities allow even inexperienced users to build expert models quickly and easily. EarthVision′s multitude of visualization tools, including integrated seismic display and interactive well design, improve and simplify quality control, well planning, and communication to management, investors, partners, and the diverse members of the asset team.
The Well Positioning Toolbox for strategic well positioning offers state-of-the-art accuracy. Combined with the 3D Viewer for UNIX or PC laptop systems, EarthVision allows rapid MWD⁄LWD model updates and easy exports to reservoir simulation.

Reservoir Navigation Supervisors Andy Poppit and Jon Skillings use real-time updates from Dynamic Graphics′ synchronized 3D Viewer to discuss wellpath adjustments while drilling a horizontal well in the North Sea.
Dynamic Graphics′ geospatial modeling products are an important component to Baker Hughes′s well planning and rigsite processes. Combined with Baker Hughes′s advanced BHA systems, Dynamic Graphics′ geospatial models greatly reduce the uncertainties while drilling complex horizontal wells.

In the well planning phase, it validates wellbore placement relative to the reservoir and acts as an effective communication tool between all levels of participants, drillers, geoscientists, managers, and investors. At the rigsite, it facilitates the real-time decision making process that ultimately allows the Reservoir Navigation Supervisor to optimize placement of the well in the most productive section of the reservoir.
