SeisWorks Data Import Program FAQs
The following is a list of frequently asked questions regarding the EarthVision
program, evgetSWdata,
that imports data from a Landmark SeisWorks project.
1. Q: What kinds of data can I
import?
2. Q: What operating systems are supported?
3. Q: With what SeisWorks version does the
import program work?
4. Q: What software from Landmark must be
accessible to run the SeisWorks Import program?
5. Q: What OpenWorks database setup, if any,
is required to use the SeisWorks link?
6. Q: What about the script createDGIsysOW
that is required for the OpenWorks link (evgetdata) setup?
7. Q: I imported a seismic data volume; however,
when I view the data in the EarthVision 3D Viewer, it is not aligned with
my model. The seismic is not rotated with respect to the model. What's
wrong?

1. What kinds of
data can I import?
Horizons and fault surfaces can be imported from SeisWorks. 3D seismic
(Landmark's Seisworks .3dv files) can also be imported as 3D grids.
2. What operating
systems are supported?
Currently SGI Irix 6.2 and higher and Solaris 2.5.1 and higher.
3. With what SeisWorks
version does the import program work?
Releases '97, '98', and '98+.
4. What
software from Landmark must be accessible to run the SeisWorks Import
program?
Currently, Landmark requires that the EarthVision SeisWorks Import program
check out an OpenWorks license upon startup. You must be able to check
out a license for OpenWorks on the machine on which you are running EarthVision.
5. What OpenWorks
database setup, if any, is required to use the SeisWorks link?
No special EarthVision setup is required. There are no scripts to run;
however, the Oracle networking software SQL*Net must be set up on workstations
on which faults will be imported. Refer to the OpenWorks Import program
installation instructions if SQL*Net is not yet set up.
6. What about the
script createDGIsysOW that is required for the OpenWorks
link (evgetdata) setup?
The script createDGIsysOW is irrelevant to the SeisWorks
Import program. That script creates tables that are used when importing
well data. The tables are not used when importing SeisWorks data.
7. I imported a seismic
data volume; however, when I view the data in the EarthVision 3D Viewer,
it is not aligned with my model. The seismic data are not rotated with
respect to the model. What's wrong?
In EarthVision 5.0.1, you cannot view your seismic data in the same 3D
Viewer window as the model. A future version of EarthVision will allow
this.
